The Loss Control Technical Services Manager supports and leads a team of loss control technical specialists that support our field loss control staff, agency customers, commercial policyholders and internal customers.  Responsibilities are focused on management and leadership of a team to attain department and corporate goals. This position is a remote position with the ability to relocate to headquarters in Fairfield, OH and will report to the Director of Field Services.

Be ready to:

  • provide direct management and leadership of our construction technical and service specialists and our construction loss control program
  • act as the department’s principal subject matter expert in all areas of construction risk management and loss control
  • develop and maintain a close partnership with Key Accounts Underwriting and Managing Director—Key Accounts Construction
  • manage and lead the team of Construction Service Specialists as they formulate service plans, deliver service, hold stewardship meetings, and meet with agents and policyholders on our Key Account—Construction accounts
  • oversee and manage the training of loss control, underwriting and other associates as it relates to construction loss control and risk management areas
  • work with the technical specialist for resources to ensure proper vendor alliances and external resources are available to support the construction book of business
  • oversee and manage the development of resources related to construction loss control and risk management
  • work closely and partner with loss control field managers to help manage work and service to ensure construction service and evaluation meets standards for all construction accounts
  • willingness to take on additional responsibilities potentially beyond current role
  • provide direct management and leadership through support and performance reviews for technical specialists  
  • align technical specialist goals to facilitate the achievement of the unit’s goals and mission
  • coach and mentor technical specialists
  • lead the specialists and help drive them in the development and growth of their technical programs
  • facilitate technical competency development and expansion for technical specialists
  • develop and maintain positive relationships with our local independent agency partners and their clients
  • develop and maintain productive relationships with other departments
  • create solutions to improve loss control that have a positive impact across the department and company
  • participate in leadership roles within industry organizations and/or on technical committees
  • travel to meet job demands up to 30-50% depending on meeting, associate and customer needs


Be equipped with:

  • Ten or more years of risk control/loss prevention, construction safety, and/or risk management experience.
  • Substantial knowledge of construction management, industry trends and construction economics
  • a proven track record and demonstrated specialization in a technical discipline
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages, typical exposures to loss, and the economics of insurance and risk control
  • a proven commitment to our goals and mission
  • a proven track record of exceeding personal and job performance goals

  • proficiencies in Microsoft Office tools and related software
  • Working knowledge of critical construction risk management principles and methods such as:
    • General building, heavy/highway, specialty trades and civil/marine construction operations and exposures.
    • Construction delivery systems, including design-bid-build, design/build, engineer procure construct (EPC), as well as joint ventures.
    • Construction processes, such as constructability, budget, scope, schedule, sequence and means/methods.
    • Strong background in General Liability exposures and necessary controls (QA/QC and CD prevention, Subcontractor Prequalification, Work Zone Liability, etc.)
    • Contracts, Subcontractor Management, and contractual risk transfer techniques and methods.
    • Fleet, crane and heavy equipment operations and controls. Wrap-ups and Controlled Insurance Programs (both owner and contractor controlled). 

You've earned:

  • a bachelor’s degree.  The undergraduate degree is in engineering or related science, or a combination of undergraduate degree and related experience and training.   Advance degree is preferred. 
  • professional designations such as PE, CSP, CFPS, CIH, OHST, CHST, CPCU, ARM or CRM
