Description
The Mechanical Engineer – HEAT owns the global implementation and roll-out of Tennant Company’s HEAT (Hydraulic, Electrical, Adhesive, and Torque) program – aimed at the identification and elimination of product quality issues resulting from HEAT related processes, materials, and designs. This position will work with Manufacturing, Current Products Engineering, and New Product Development to lead the improvement of designs, processes, and materials for HEAT.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Owns the global roll-out of HEAT training for manufacturing sites
- Leads the analysis of Quality data to identify trends in finished goods quality and warranty to identify improvement opportunities for HEAT
- Works with plants to coordinate the HEAT audit program globally to ensure compliance to HEAT standard work
- Designs and develops HEAT standards and standard work for related Manufacturing processes
- Works with Current Products and New Products to identify design quality improvement opportunities to eliminate the opportunity for HEAT related Quality issues
- Working with Global Quality manager, defines and implements 3 year HEAT strategy
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of HEAT in an OEM assembly environment
- Understanding of engineering statistical analysis processes.
- Strong grasp of a wide variety of manufacturing materials and processes.
- Strong creativity and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to use initiative to develop and execute continuous improvement plans
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- High level of initiative and strong desire to drive new ideas, components, and solutions into the manufacturing teams.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- SAP knowledge desired (not required)
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years engineering experience working in a manufacturing and/or engineering environment
- Exposure or training in a Toyota Production Systems (LEAN) environment required
- Six Sigma Preferred

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations.
